About

Described as a country-lovers paradise there are miles of walks without using a car

About the Cottage

Traditionally furnished the sitting room has a Parker Knoll three-piece suite as well as a larger squashy sofa, occasional tables, a Smart TV,  a DVD player and small music system.  There is also a "log effect" electric fire for cooler evenings

The sunny kitchen was recently refitted and has a gas cooker, fridge and a small freezer together with a microwave.  The kitchen is well equipped, but if there is anything else you need, we shall be happy to help

The dining area opens into the hallway with access to the bathroom,  kitchen and the two bedrooms.  This property has a cloakroom with toilet and wash handbasin, as well as a larger family bathroom with an electric shower set above the bath.   This is truly a loo with a view!  Both bedrooms have been refurnished recently and the beds in the twin room can be pushed together to make a large king-size bed if preferred.  The double room has a conventional 4'6" bed with a semi-orthopaedic mattress and a king sized duvet.  Both bedrooms have wardrobes, armchairs and plenty of storage space, and have views in both directions.  The cottage has a very efficient central heating system, as well as double glazing so is a very cosy venue for colder times of the year.  An additional charge may be made for colder times of the year - charged at cost.  Beds are made up with quality bedding and each person has two fluffy towels.  Tea towels, loo rolls and all cleaning materials can be found in the cottage

Long Wood and surrounding area

From the cottage it is a short walk to the footpaths in Long Wood (approximately 19 acres) as well as into the orchard and eight acre meadow with its pond and stream. There are sometimes sheep in the meadow

The cottage has a large secure garden

and its just a few steps into the orchard.

From eight-acrea meadow it is a pleasant walk down to the local parish church with its connections to Dick Whttington.

Set in a total of thirty acres, with the owner's home a little way to the rear of

the property, the cottage enjoys the most idyllic rural location.  Views stretch in all

directions.  Enjoy dark skies and amazing sunrises. There are no other holiday

properties on this site so it is "all yours" for your stay.

Our own private 19 acre woodland, Long Wood, is inhabited by many forms

of wildlife including foxes, fallow deer, hares, buzzards and badgers.

Many species of birds have been recorded.

Originally an ancient woodland site, part of the wood was replanted with conifers by the

Forestry Commission in the 1950's although some areas have now been cleared and

replaced with native trees.  During the spring and early summer the wood is full of wild

flowers from primroses and wild anemonies to cowslips and early purple orchids.

COVID CLEANING POLICY

  • All hard surfaces will be cleaned with a bacterial cleanser prior to your arrival - we are aware Covid is a virus rather than a bacterium and are advised hot soapy water is the best that can be used
  • You are welcome to bring your own bedding/pillows/towels.   If you wish to use ours we will ask you to strip the bed at the end of your stay and to put all used  linen in a laundry basket and leave it outside the back door.  This will then be stored in an outhouse for five days prior to being washed with biological powder at 60 degrees
  • All light pull cords have been replaced with Biomaster plasticised cords to reduce the risk of cross infection
  • All light switches and door handles will be wiped prior to your arrival

This year, due to the cost, we have not participated in the Visit Britain inspection scheme.  However, in past years we have been one of the very few properties to achieve a score of 100% for our cleaning practices.  We are confident of our ability to be able to offer you a hygenically clean holiday property
